2.1 How does Trust-E-Mail work?
Trust-E-Mail uses a simple 3-point protocol to establish message Originators as trusted entities.
-
Originator sends a message.
-
Trust-E-Mail intercepts the message and stores it; a "Confirmation Request Message" is sent back to the Originator.
-
Originator replies and the message is delivered. All future messages from the same originator are trusted.
2.2 What is the Confirmation Request Message?
The "Confirmation Request Message" is a message sent back to an unknown message Originator in order to verify the Originator is living, breathing, human being, and not a software mass-mailer.
2.3 How does the Originator confirm himself?
To confirm himself, the Originator simply has to reply to the Confirmation Request Message.
2.4 Will the Originator have to confirm himself every single time? |
No. A single confirmation is sufficient for the Originator to become a trusted entity. No further confirmations will be required.
2.5 If confirming is so easy, why can't spammers do it automatically?
The method of confirmation is indeed very straight-forward and could potentially be automated. However, it would not be practical for spammers to do so.
Spammers send messages to thousands of e-mail addresses at a time. The vast majority of these e-mail addresses are not valid or have exceeded their storage quota, and they result in non-delivery notification messages. The sheer volume of these messages will serve to severely congest the spammer's network connection. This often leads to spammers using fake "From" addresses, making replies impossible. Needless to say that actively processing each reply is not really an option.
Further, we have performed studies to establish the viability of our approach. Our approach has proven to be 100% effective against mass-advertising over a two month test period with accounts previously receiving up to 2,000 spam messages on daily basis.
2.6 What happens if the Originator does not receive the Confirmation Request Message?
It is rare but theoretically possible that a Confirmation Request Message gets lost due to a mail server malfunction, or because the Originator does not check mail for a prolonged amount of time. Trust-E-Mail provides a management console, which makes it easy to locate and examine messages pending confirmation. From the console, the Originator of such messages can be instantly made trusted and the messages will be delivered to the destined Recipients.
